Job Hunt Update

OK, you guys, so as you know I had been working at the Cherokee Casino Resort in Catoosa since September of 2000, but was fired February of this year. Well since then I have been on unemployment. And just so you know I wasn't just setting at home doing nothing, although it felt that way sometimes. I have been looking for a job for the last 8 months, just never found one. Here's the funny thing though. I got this e-mail on the 11th from someone in the Creek Nation Casino Employment department saying to contact them regarding employment at Creek Nation Casino. So the next day I called and they said they had seen my resume online and wanted me to come in for an interview. I said shore why not. Now I was trying to find a job closer to Claremore to save gas, but after 8 months of not finding a job I was desperate. So Monday the 15th I went in for the interview. They had me fill out an application and then I had an intake interview to see what position they wanted me for. That Thursday the 18th I went back for an interview with a department manager. The interview went GREAT!!! They offered me a job, pending gaming licence approval, as a Cashier Supervisor, which is what I did at Cherokee Casino. I went back on Monday the 22nd to fill out the application for the gaming licence. They said they would call me in 2 to 3 days to let me know when to go complete the proses for the gaming licence, but they called today not even a day later, I'm taking that as a good sign. So I have to be in Okmulgee at 10:45 in the morning. I'm still not sore when I'll start orientation. But after orientation it's 2 weeks of cashier training, which they said if I do good at I wouldn't have to do the 2 full weeks. After that it's 2 weeks of account clerk training (that's all the paperwork for the cashiers) and then 2 more weeks of supervisor training. At this point I don't know what shift I'll be working or what days I'll have off, not that I care about that stuff. I'm just glade to have a job again. I get so board being at home. It wouldn't be so bad I guess if I had the money to be able to go out and do stuff, but when your broke the only thing there is to do is stay home and watch T.V. or play on the computer. I just hope that once they have me start all the orientation and training it doesn't interfere with the family reunion next month. OK, that's it for now I have to get up early in the morning. I'll keep you guys updated on how the new job is going.

When you start a new job, if you know in advance when you have a future commitment, all you do is tell them when the offer is made what the date(s) are. It is better to be upfront about these things because trying to switch a shift with someone else, or telling them a day or week before, or calling in sick is not a wise thing to do. They will appreciate your notification. A family reunion is pretty important, especially when you are one of the organizers.

Just call your personnel contact or go in early before your next shift and let them know what dates you need to be off.
